Easy outlines or a more complex scene
Easy Drawing uses recognizable objects and animals. Challenge Drawing contains combinations such as “a city in the clouds,” which require several visual clues. These are prompt selections rather than arbitrary nouns with a difficulty label.
Control who sees this screen
The prompt appears on this device after Reveal. Let the artist look while other participants turn away, or use printed cards. There is no separate secret host screen or remote player device. A prepared Draw the Word session uses each selected prompt once, then stops.
Use a random word generator for pictionary
This word generator pictionary activity starts with a covered prompt. Choose easy objects and animals for a quick round, or challenge prompts when the artist has time for a scene. Reveal only when the artist is ready, draw without writing the answer, and let the group guess. Agree on the time limit and clue rules before starting; this independent tool supplies prompts rather than an official rulebook.
Build a reusable set of pictionary words
Collect pictionary prompts that fit your group, remove unfamiliar choices in the workspace, and save a named deck. A pictionary generator is most useful when the prompts match the players: a familiar object can be a better clue than an obscure word. Print the selected cards for an offline round or run Draw the Word with a timer. Printing keeps your chosen selection instead of drawing new words.
Questions about this tool
Can I print the same prompts?
Yes. Print takes the currently selected snapshot. It does not generate a replacement list.
Is this affiliated with the game publisher?
No. This is an independent word-activity tool. “Draw the Word” describes the built-in activity.
What is Pictionary?
Pictionary is a drawing and guessing game in which one player sketches a secret word or phrase while teammates try to identify it. The artist gives clues through pictures instead of saying or writing the answer. You can play the published board game or use drawing prompts for a casual game with paper and a timer.
How do you play Pictionary?
For a casual drawing game, divide players into teams and choose an artist for the first turn. Show only the artist a prompt, start an agreed timer, and let teammates guess while the artist draws. Award one point for a correct answer before time runs out, then switch teams and rotate artists. If you are playing the board game, follow your edition’s instructions for categories, movement and winning.
How do you play Pictionary with a large group?
For a large group, form teams of similar size and rotate the artist each round. Use a large drawing surface that everyone can see. A casual all-play format lets one artist from each team draw the same secret prompt at the same time, with the first correct team earning a point. Agree on the timer and guessing rules before play; these are suggestions for a group variation.
How do you play Pictionary with 3 players?
Use a casual three-player variation: one person draws while the other two guess. Give one point to the first correct guesser, then rotate the artist so everyone draws the same number of rounds. Keep the prompt hidden from both guessers and use the same time limit for every turn. This individual scoring format is a house rule rather than a universal board-game rule.
How do you play virtual Pictionary?
Join a video call and use a shared digital whiteboard, or point a camera at paper. Send the prompt privately to the artist, start a timer, and let the other players guess aloud. Keep the generator’s revealed prompt off the shared screen. Rotate artists and record points using an agreed scoring system.
Who invented Pictionary?
Robert “Rob” Angel invented Pictionary. The game was first published in 1985. Its central idea is to have players identify words and phrases from their teammates’ drawings.
What are the rules for Pictionary?
In the classic drawing format, the artist must not speak, mime clues, or write letters or numbers. Teammates guess from the drawing before the timer ends. Agree in advance on how exact an answer must be. Board movement, all-play rounds and the winning condition depend on the edition; use its rulebook. With generated prompts and no board, agree on points and a round limit before starting.
